David Gibson, AIA, president of DF Gibson Architects in New York City gave a presentation at the East Coast Green conference on September 16th on "Historic Preservation and Sustainable Design". This topic touched two of the major cornerstones of his practice. DF Gibson Architects has completed numerous preservation master plans and design projects and has been a leader in the preservation and re-use of historic buildings. The firm is also at the forefront of sustainable and energy efficient design, having incorporated energy savings features from gas-fired absorption chiller heaters to building envelope design including light harvesting and solar shading into its projects.
The East Coast Green conference was held in Atlantic City and hosted by AIA New Jersey. It was focused on how the architectural profession and building industry can meet the Architecture 2030 goals. Legislation, Codes/Metrics, Planning, Buildings, and Tectonics were among the topics covered.
