Center for Math Science and Teaching Excellence Magnet High School - Newark, NJ

The Essex County Vocational Technical Schools, in collaboration with New Jersey Institute of Technology, retained DF Gibson to develop a conceptual design for an innovative center for the teaching of science, math, and engineering based technologies for high school students.

The 80,000 sf school was planned without long corridors. Instead, labs, classrooms, resource rooms and prep areas are all linked through a series of glass walls and doorways. The plan focuses upon a 3-story cylindrical structure housing the cafeteria, auditorium, and distance learning centers. This arrangement was intended to create a building that allows students, faculty, and staff to work and study in an environment which will enhance their professional development.
